8 Individuals Debunk And Confirm Porn Myths

8 Individuals Debunk And Confirm Porn Myths

Let’s talk about porn like adults

We all watch porn be it to pass the time, up our game or out of sheer curiosity. But when the subject of porn comes up during face to face conversations, many shy away or laugh nervously at the word.

Say what you will but porn has somehow served as an educational tool for many especially because the sex ed we got in school were limited to: sleep with someone before marriage and you’ll go to hell, unwanted pregnancy and venereal diseases you can contract just by touching your partner.

But here’s the problem: porn is not real and is not (always) a reliable resource for quality (or even safe) sex. After all the sex is staged to hyperbolic levels and the people in it are actors. It’s also important to note that porn doesn’t always get it right when it comes to how men or women like to be pleasured. Read: long acrylic nails are not recommended for digital penetration (fingering); so please don’t.

We talked to singletons and couples alike about porn, if they consume adult content, how often and their general thoughts on the topic.

Let the people talk

All respondents admitted to watching porn, with 80% saying they watch occasionally. Why? The answers we received were surprisingly diverse. “Sex is an evolving art [or] sport. If you don’t know how it’s done and the many ways it can be done, how can you improve?” says one couple. Three respondents share they watch for fun while the rest say they do so because they’re “lonely.”

Wonder also asked participants if they watch adult shorts or movies with their partner and many said yes. In fact, “we critique factors [as to] why it’s a nice clip and [talk] points for improvement” with another saying, “so he learns.” Those who answered no explain that they only watch porn when their partner is not around; “ I find it difficult to watch porn with my partner/wife because she might find it off or disrespectful.”

As for things they’ve learned, some say it taught them “to own it and be more confident in the bedroom,” “do upside down bjs” and “tricks/moves that make her feel great while having sex.” The remaining respondents disagreed and thought there was nothing much to learn as performances were standard.

When it came to porn moves and myths they’ve tried and confirmed or debunked in real life, many were still tight-lipped and shared little to none about their experience:

Moves or myths debunked

“Dick is always hard”

Again, porn is not an exact representation of life as we know it. “Sometimes you have to have sex with people you don't like and you still have to get it up and be stoked,” shared Parisian pornstar Arabelle Raphael in an interview with Glamour. Besides a penis can’t go from zero to a hundred. A lot of other factors also come into play for the penis to be erect or stay that way such as age, health, level of excitement, etc.

“Squirting is gross”

Honestly, real-life sex can be messy and awkward but that’s what makes it special. Porn on the other hand exists to show people what they want to see. In the same interview with Glamour, adult actress Charlotte Gross explained, “something that looks good to…somebody that's sitting watching me doesn't necessarily always feel the best for me.” And that explains a lot about how sex is presented in the porn industry.

Now before you go incognito and pay your usual porn site a visit to, say, pick up a few new moves, consider talking to your partner about sex instead. Single? Think about what you like in bed and how you like it. At the end of the day, we all have preferences to be learned, needs to be fulfilled and desires to be satisfied. Don’t be afraid to embrace your sexuality, set limits and understand that of your partner’s too, and get ready for better, blissful sex.
